Design a New Logo for KDE.org
Source (link to git-repo or to original if based on someone elses unmodified work): Add the source-code for this project on opencode.net
Hey guys, I know this has already been posted in the discussion section, but I think it's worth posting here as well. We need more submissions!
In case you didn't know, KDE is running a competition to improve the image of the main website. As such we are looking for original artwork that will make the site look good, and in particular we are looking for a new logo.
The contest details and rules are here (important):

Only 1 week left!
And *don't* worry. The original logo in screenshot1 by root66 is now entered in the competition. If you guys love it so much, you will be able to vote for it and we will keep it afterall. :-)
The SVG, PSD and AI file for the KDE crystal logos you see in screenshot 2 are available to anyone who needs them, courtesy Everaldo:

Happy painting!

From Sep. 2002 till Feb. 2003, i composed two complete layouts for the new site and made over 14 different code-implementations always trying to adapt the current requirements of the kde-www list.
Unfortunately, up to now almost nothing of the code/graphical layouts has made it into the real KDE-Site. People are arguing about a logo that was never supposed to be on the final site, wondering from what mysterious person it could have originated...
Somehow that makes me feel sad.

You used to be on kde-www, right? This stuff about the logo has been in discussion for a long time on kde-www before the contest was made public... But anyhow, the original logo can now be entered in to the contest and will probably win since everyone likes it.
Btw, I thought the KDE site layout is almost exactly based on yours. I liked the first one better though.

Actually, didn't you post the sources for the site right here in kde-look? Was it you? I remember testing some new style for the new website. That was a pretty good design.
I thought it was the same guy the one that was making the actual changes.
What I see from the developers is that they rarely care about what happens in kde-look. I bet 80% of them still didn't hear of karamba :-)
They usually don't care unless the author posts an e-mail right to their mail lists.

As someone who is not an artist
but a programmer I can tell you:
I would not be able to create this
in 4 minutes. A car engineer
sometimes finds what's wrong with
my car in 4 minutes. I don't, because
I am not an engineer. An opera
singer can sing a beautiful song
instantly. I can't, because I am not
a singer. You get the idea. Now, as
KDE is free project consisting mainly
of programmers not of artists there
needs to be someone to contribute this.
So where is you problem with that?
If you can create in 4 minutes, feel free
to do so ;-)

1.- Was root66 the one that made the original logo?
2.- If so, why the hell are you root66 behaving like that? Let us know: are_you or are_you_not giving it?
3.- Navindra: did you even ask for the source?
My opinion: if root66 is the author and doesn't want to share it, ok, no matter how good it is, I don't want it, since it's going to be crap without the source, so let's go on with the competition.
Sorry for being so harsh, but you look like children making a war out of just a picture.

2: Somebody might have taken an existing PNG from somewhere and brushed it a bit with a bitmap program. Please don't accuse people like root66 for nothing.
3: No, since I'm really not involved with this other than posting the competition here and approving/editing the submission from Jason for the dot. However IIRC, many requests for the source of the logo have gone out to the list.
4: Drop the attitude please... Less attitude, more contest entries! Help make KDE better by contributing!

> root66 for nothing.
I'm not trying to accuse anyone, but his comment on top of this list seems to mean just that, and luci seemed to believe it.
That's why I was asking for a clear explanation, sorry.
Appart from that,... I'm really willing to see the new logo. I just wish the participants had a bit more flexibility without being constrained to the "official" logos. That way we could have a new logo for the 4.x series ;-)

"The reason it is being held:
Message body is too big: 45580 bytes with a limit of 40 KB
Either the message will get posted to the list, or you will receive
notification of the moderator's decision."
To my knowledge, all of my .PNGs have been under 40k. I did send multiple files until I started getting these e-mails. Could you let me know how many entries you have received from me so I could re-submit them before the deadline if necessary?

btw i must say, all these entries i've seen until now are worse than the actual logo.

Yes, what part of that don't you understand? We need to use the same design for other subsites so we need the source.
> all these entries i've seen until now are worse
Why don't you submit something that's better then?

ok, now this is obsolete after reading your reply at kde-www list and posts at the end of the comments here...

Yeah, who doesn't ask for it - doesn't get it, just like in real life ;-)
