If you really wanted to, I suppose you could edit the icons package to manually replace it in a less hackish fashion (I think 4.2.3 has them in kdemod-runtime-icons or hicolor-icons and 4.2.85/4.3b1 uses oxygen-icons).. but who is going to download such a huge package over again solely to replace one icon? If you wish to do this yourself, http://kdemod.ath.cx/bbs/viewtopic.php?id=794 see the last post here for pkgbuild links, but it's really probably more trouble than it's worth.

Writing over the icons in the oxygen folder as instructed didn't seem to do any good. Rebooting didn't seem to either. What did though was a combination of the original instructions and the below:
1) Switch to another icon theme (any theme will do, just switch and apply) and back.
2) Copy the start-here svg from the scalable folder in the tar file provided, rename it and move it to replace /usr/share/icons/oxygen/scalable/places/start-here-branding.svg ).
I think I did it this order: overwrite oxygen icons, replace start-here-branding.svg, switch icon theme to some gnome one I had installed, reboot, switch back to oxygen icon theme. Good to go :)
